Kidney failure & transplantation

We are getting more and more patients each day with kidney function abnormalities or kidney failure. Mostly the underlying causes include diabetes, hypertension, or congenital diseases (by birth). When kidneys start failing, the patient develops swelling mostly over the limbs, the apetite decreases and patient has nausea and vomiting repeatedly. All this leads to weakness and dialysis has to be done to save the patient. But dialysis is always a temporary solution. Dialysis is accompanied by its own fair share of complications and adverse effects. Kidney transplantation is the only real permanent solution to this problem. The results of kidney transplantation are excellent. These results are better, if transplantation is done before dialysis has started. Kidney transplant can be done with open technique, or with the help of keyhole incisions.
