Kidney cancer

In the past kidney cancer used to be a bad news for the patients, since most of them presented to a urologist in the advanced stage. Whole of the kidney had to be removed and still the future used to uncertain. However, with increased use of ultrasound examination, most tumors are caught early. Since patients are becoming more aware and knowledgeable, they usually come to a urologist early. Surgery is the only definitive treatment of these tumors. Today, kidney tumors can be removed while saving the kidneys. This can be done by open technique, laparoscopically (using keyhole incisions), or Robotically (Keyhole incisions with maximum precision).Most kidney tumors can be removed today, while saving the kidneys. After the surgery, the patient stays admitted for 1-2 days, and later needs atleast 5 days of rest at home for good recovery. Surgery for these tumors may essentially cure the disease in most cases.
